Cycling

Cycling is free, fast and fun! With high fuel prices and car parking fees cycling can save you money whilst also being good for your health and the environment. Cycling during rush hour can be up to twice as fast as going by car and it also boosts brain cells ensuring you arrive at your destination feeling refreshed, motivated and ready to concentrate on the day ahead. You can travel around six miles in half an hour on a bicycle at a moderate speed, meaning that a large proportion of people actually live within 30 minutes cycle commuting distance of their workplace.

Cranbrook, which makes for a safe walking environment, also provides a pleasant and safe environment for cyclists. The streets within Cranbrook are designed for low car speeds allowing for safe mixing of cyclists and vehicles.

Through the cycling routes available, which includes the new traffic free Redhayes Bridge over the M5, You can cycle to numerous local areas, including Exeter, the airport, Rockbeare, Broadclyst and Whimple.

Bicycle User Group

Residents will be invited to join a bicycle user group which is to be set up over the next couple of months.

This will be held every other month with local cycle repair shops invited to attend to provide advice on basic cycle repair and maintenance and to highlight what equipment is available to make cycling a pleasant experience.

Prize draws are to take place at the meetings giving a chance to win cycling equipment.

If you are interested in becoming a member of the Group, please register your interest by emailing the Travel Plan Coordinator.
