Car Share

Car-sharing allows you to benefit from the convenience of the car, whilst dramatically cutting your travel costs and alleviating the associated problems of congestion and pollution by travelling with more than one person. Car sharing:

  • Saves you money - travelling with others enables you to reduce your transport costs
  • Reduces the number of cars on the roads - resulting in less congestion, less pollution and fewer parking problems
  • Provides a real solution to the transport problems of rural areas
  • Gives employees and employers more transport options
  • Reduces the need for a private car

You can share a car for any journey - getting to work, doing the weekly shop, taking the children to school, going to the match at the weekend, travelling to a festival, event or show, getting to or from university, visiting friends or getting to the airport.

The website www.cranbrook.liftshare.com has been set up to assist you in finding others who undertake similar journeys. You can register for free then insert the details of the journeys you make and then let the website find suitable matches.

Car Club

The costs and hassles associated with owning a car can add up through insurance, servicing, MOT, tax, cleaning and parking permits. Typically if you travel less than 6000 miles a year it will be cheaper for you to use the car club.

The car club will allow you access to a  car 24/7, 365 days of the year. The vehicle will be serviced and maintained, and you will only need to pay when you use the vehicle and not when you don’t. The vehicle can be booked for as little as one hour, for one day, or as long as needed and can be booked by phone or at anytime online. There is a dedicated parking space so there will always be a space waiting for you when you return.

The car club will offer all the convenience of a vehicle, without the hassles and expenses of owning one.

Eco Driving

Modest changes to your driving style can save you money by reducing the amount of fuel you use, reduce your C02 emissions and make you a safer driver:

  • Don’t open your windows on the motorway, this increases drag so you need more fuel to maintain a steady speed.
  • Cut emissions and fuel bills by 50% by car sharing with one other person.
  • Get your car into a higher gear, these are more economical with fuel.
  • Avoid stopping unnecessarily, don’t rush to join the back of a queues. roll towards it.
  • Safety is paramount, leave adequate space between you and the car in front and accelerate  and brake gently.
  • Using air conditioning increases you CO2 emissions by around 5%.
  • Check your tyre pressure on a monthly basis, under inflated tyres increase your emissions and use up more fuel.
  • A heavy car will use up more fuel, keep your car free of junk.
  • Driving smoothly will reduce emissions and improve fuel consumption.
  • Remove roof racks / roof top boxes – these increase drag.
